Our initial aim – is to increase the appliance of philosophy and critical thinking in education in order to create more active citizens. However, recently we’ve been asking ourselves whether, more philosophy and critical thinking – is inherently the same as more democratic understanding and participation? The discussion whether philosophers make good countrymen and democrats is as old as philosophy and democracy itself. In athens in ancient Greece, the polis (city/citymen) made a difference between wise men (Sophos) and men with knowledge about human affairs (Phronimos). Their argument was that wise men or philosophers were occupied with truth of the universe and not with what is most useful/good (Kalon K’ Agathon) for men. The next couple of days, we shall dive head first into this dilemma – full well knowing, it might render our entire project obsolete or in need of some serious restructuring. If you have any insights or thoughts on this matter, please feel free reach out. If not, then check back for a more in-depth investigation of this millennia old dispute.
